"There is no better place than Florida to enjoy the outdoors and we want to make sure all Floridians can enjoy water sports and recreation safely" says Crist. "I encourage all Floridians and visitors to our state to practice safe boating and to wear life jackets." The organization that supports local U.S. Coast Guard auxiliaries sent out a nationwide e-mail with a photo of a grounded speedboat with the warning that the "auxiliary wants to remind all boaters about the need to maintain a proper lookout at all times, and always wear a life jacket" as part of Safe Boating Week. Crist and the Cabinet’s vote backed the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and its partners’ efforts to increase boating safety awareness and lessen boating deaths statewide. The proclamation encourages Floridians and visitors to stay alert for danger approaching from any direction; develop a life jacket habit, take an approved safe boating course and get a vessel check.
