Gulf Coast Symphony, Galloway Ford team for free concert

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

— The Gulf Coast Symphony, Southwest Florida's premier community orchestra, will offer a free concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 7 as part of the Magic Carpet Family Concert Series at the Galloway Ford Dealership. The concert is free; no tickets or advance reservations are required.

Future concerts will be held November 18, 2007 and March 9, 2008. All concerts are held at the Galloway Ford dealership at 1800 Boy Scout drive in Fort Myers.

The theme of this month's concert is "Music and the Great Outdoors." The concert features Grieg's "In the Hall of the Mountain King," Smetana's "Moldau," "In the Steppes of Central Asia" from Borodin, the first movement of Beethoven's "Pastorale Symphony" and Mendelssohn's "Fingal's Cave Overture."

Designed for children of all ages, the free one-hour concerts serve as an introduction to orchestra and the world of classical music.

Children can sit on their own "magic carpet" as they are taken on a journey through the sights and sound unique to a symphony orchestra.

Interactive demonstrations, explanations, and one-on-one interaction with orchestra members are all elements of these exciting and captivating concerts.

Instrument petting zoos are on display before and after each concert.

The Gulf Coast Symphony's Galloway Magic Carpet Family Concert Series is a partnership with the Galloway family.
