Event aims to raise $20,000 for kids, pregnant women and babies in Southwest Florida

Monday, October 8, 2007

Healthy Start and the West Bay Club are teaming up to present the second annual Healthy Start Golf Classic.

The charity golf fund-raiser, slated for Saturday October 13, will benefit the Healthy Start Coalition of Southwest Florida.

“We hope that people will join together in the spirit of fun and community activism, while doing their part to help kids and pregnant women in Lee County,” said Carlos Navedo, PR and Development Director for Healthy Start Coalition.

“With the money raised during this event, we can continue to provide at-risk moms and babies a continuum of services including everything from parenting education, medical-care and transportation,” Navedo said.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the West Bay Club in Estero; breakfast begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Lunch and the awards program will be at 2 p.m. For directions to the West Bay Club, please call 239-948-3482.

Teams can reserve a spot and download registration and pledge forms at www.healthystartswfl.com; completed forms should be faxed to 239-425-6921.

For registration or pledge/donation questions, please contact the Healthy Start Coalition of Southwest Florida at (239) 425-6920

Healthy Start’s first annual Golf Classic in June of 2006 was an amazing success, raising $14,000 through last year’s twenty participating teams.

This year’s event is aiming for thirty teams and a fund-raising goal of $20,000. U.S. Golf Association rules will govern all play in this 4-man scramble. Friends, families and co-workers are encouraged to create teams to help this annual event make a difference in the lives of thousands of Southwest Florida’s at-risk women and children.
