JONNA RUBIN
Staff Writer - The Banner

I came here after fleeing the frozen tundra of Boston and, perhaps more worthy of fleeing, a career in technology communications.
Though I've fallen in love with Florida, I wonder aloud daily why anyone describes 60 degrees as "chilly." I went to college in Syracuse, N.Y., so I define "chilly" as minus-20 degrees, 2 feet of snow and frostbitten ears. Something requiring more than a pashmina.
I made the switch to community journalism because I love learning about people. What they like to do, where they eat, how they got where they are. A community is only as good as its people, and Southwest Florida has some outstanding citizens.
Outside of work, I chase after my screaming, snorting pets and subject my husband to bad cooking. I also enjoy celebrity gossip, reading and daydreaming about John Irving depositing an unpublished novel in my mailbox labeled "For Jonna" so I can stop writing my own.
