LIANE SMITH

Staff Writer

As a Southwest Florida native, working here is a perfect fit.

I watched Hurricane Andrew from my front porch in Golden Gate Estates as a girl and walked down the aisle with my husband, Travis, while Hurricane Frances blew outside.

I got my start in newspapers writing and taking pictures for a paper in Everglades City. Then I moved to another swamp, eventually graduating from the University of Florida in Gainesville.

After a stint editing a scuba magazine in High Springs, Fla., I worked as a staff writer for The Sanford Herald outside of Orlando.

When I'm not working, I enjoy the beach: basking in the sun, collecting shells and fishing with my husband. On occasion, we've been known to stay out all night, dancing till it hurts. We also spend a lot of time figuring out what our lovable chihuahua-pitbull mutt has destroyed, chewed, eaten or hidden while we were out.
